I seem to have let the registration lapse on my car, 40 minutes ago.

In the morning I'll get the stamp needed from my insurance company on the way to the office... then I'll figure something out from there. Maybe I'll just mail it in and go carless for the time it takes them to process. It could be good for the soul.

Or is there something I need to do with the car before that would go through?

You can't renew it online even though its expired?

The piece of paper they sent me says "Eligible for mail-in or branch service" in the box where the number would be for phone renewal... and I got some confusing errors when I tried to renew online a couple weeks back, at which point I dropped it on the floor. Oops.

I imagine you have to renew via paper because you need and insurance stamp. Our insurance company doesn't do stamps so we can renew online. Go do it in person soon. If you get caught driving with expired registration it is a fine and counts as a mving violation against your STEP count so you lose your good driver discount for three years.

Well, the car was already destined to sit in the driveway til I get this dealt with; I like having a nice low STEP.

At least I don't need to worry about getting a parking ticket for the expired registration on top of everything else. Yay driveway.

You should be able to do it online. If there's any approvals holding you up, you can usually arrange for them over the phone, and that'll clear the online process for you or get a fax.

But get online or on the phone today. In my experience they've been pretty nice about letting you go if it's like one day overdue, but you still want to deal today.
