Taking the high road doesn't lead very far ...
Time and again it has been shown that the candidate that takes the high road loses points in votes. Is this an absolute rule? I doubt it, but I do think he's going to regret it.

But I suspect that other more tenable opportunities for smacking the GOP will occur. But the irony is sweet, even if Obama can't use it.

I vaguely recall that going into the DNC, Obama was rolling attack ads in swing states. The commentators were saying it was a low-key thing but an interesting development, since so much of his grassroots support is predicated on "breaking with the politics of old".
