more accounting for myself

Saturday, got lunch at The Broken Yolk in the PB neighborhood of San Diego, then hit the airport. Flew to Minneapolis, and went to a great chinese buffet for dinner in Burnsville. Mongolian Barbecue, yum!

Got up bright and early this morning to go and volunteer for the Med City Marathon with zachrabak and family. The weather was as perfect as could be for the runners, a little chilly for those of us manning the watering station at miles 19 and 21 (there was a loop around mile 20 that brought them coming at us from both directions). And I got a free t-shirt!

A fun time was had by all... got to see zachrabak's brother for the first time in a long while, it seems, and I think it was the first time I met his wife...

Soon, I'll get to have my mom's home-cooked niu rou mien. If I was smart I would have watched her like a hawk as she prepared it, but instead I finished reading my book, nursing a slight headache away.

Oh, and I have a new haircut, too. It's short again.

What's in niu rou mien?

Literally it's just "beef noodles"... I've heard it called hong shao niu rou mien, red-cooked beef noodles, as well.

It's basically stewed beef chunks, very garlicky and gingery, and hot red peppery, I guess... mixed in with noodles and greens. And sesame oil and soy sauce.

I think other places may make the soup richer, but this works just fine for me.

Anywho. That dish sounds absolutely delicious. It's got all the basic me groups.
