Someone else pioneered the use of the word "frak" as a swear word.

It's a vowell-substitution away from frik which (along with its variant frig) has long been substituted for fuck by the kind of people who make a point of not swearing.

Except that frigging, IIRC, is a term for another sexual act ... and therefore probably not strictly a substitute for the f-bomb.

I'd never heard it used that way, but yeah, at least since Shakespeare's time, according to the OED. Apparently derived both from its resemblance to fuck and earlier usage of both frig and frick to mean 'rub' or 'chafe' in an innocuous way. Learn something new every day.
