So what's to do in Philly? What local things should I not miss? I hear
  • Yuengling, and
  • Scrapple

I also make the assumption that I should find a cheesesteak while I am here. What's the right cheesteak?

Don't miss the Reading Terminal Market. You could probably find a half dozen different cheesesteaks in there.

I also seem to recall a pretty nice collection of Rodin sculptures there.

...and when in the Reading Terminal Market, be absolutely sure to get a pretzel from the Amish people. Yes, a pretzel. Trust me.

I have to agree with this. Philly has the best soft pretzels. Put on some mustard.

Skip the scrapple. It's just gross, even smothered in ketchup. I don't even know what a yuengling is.

Go to Pat's for the cheesesteak. If it's good enough for Rocky, it's good enough for you. Order a "cheez wit'" (cheesesteak with onions) and get the cherry soda too. While you're in the neighborhood, stroll down the Italian Market; it's like Haymarket, but a mile long. Don't mind the trashcans; they're supposed on fire.

The Ben Franklin exhibit sounds interesting, and you might also visit the Franklin Institute or the Art Museum if you have time.

Scrapple is the best thing ever.

[The fact that I grew up in Lancaster, which is where you really should be getting your scrapple, may have something to do with my opinion...]

There were ads in the Boston subway for a Ben Franklin exhibit in Philly that sounded cool.

Find out if it is school vacation week in Philly like it is here. If it is, take that into consideration before embarking on an adventure like the Franklin Institute. :)

Been a long time since I was there, but the friends we stayed with seemed to treat stromboli (a folded pizza of sorts) as a gift from god, and they claimed it as a Philadelphia original. Don't know if that's true or not.

should have paid attention to the Food Network's shows recently. There was one on cheesesteaks. Bet if you did a search on FNTV you could find it.
