"timetable"

I don't know who's poisoned the Democratic meme pool with this timetable idea. It's the "lockbox" of 2004.

I'm failing to get the "lockbox" reference, but I sure agree the timetable idea is crap. The only people a timetable could help would be the ones who got us into this mess in the first place: if they can get US troops out by late 2008 and declare "victory", they just might not get their heads handed to them on a platter. Well, them and Al Qaeda, who would get to crow about a victory over the great satan. We — the People of the United States, acting through our duly elected government — went into some other poor schmucks' country and made an unholy mess. The fact that those officials ought to be tried for treason for lying and manipulting intelligence to lead the country into a war does not in any way diminish our responsibility. We made the mess, we need to clean it up.

Lockbox
Al Gore talked about keeping the Social Security money in a lockbox.

Yup.

The White House's National Strategy for Victory in Iraq, at a cursory glance, looks a lot more sensible and realistic to me than what I hear the Democrats saying lately. (That includes Nancy Pelosi on the Daily Show.) I plan a more careful reading but have not yet done it.
