They had the most amazing thunderstorm ever brought in for this year's Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. I sat down at the main stage, to await the first act, and a guy came out and warned us we had minutes until a storm came, and we should go check on our campsites and find shelter. So I did, and got there in plenty of time to batten down the hatches and stuff. And then I stood in the rain, and took it all in. My shirt was soaked, everything was soaked, I got to help neighbors with their tents, stopping things from blowing away... Got some good photos and a mediocre movie. The rain hit us hard and fast, and windy, and it was wonderful.

Before Ani DiFranco came on, Sunday night, the sound board started playing California Guitar Trio's instrumental rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. A bunch of us in the audience started singing, and then gathered around and really started belting it out, trying to get everyone into it. It was a fantastic moment. Wish I had a photo of red-nosed me hamming it up in front of that crowd.

Yes, red-nosed. Turns out I need sunscreen too. I had a moment of hubris on Friday... well, a whole damn day of it, really. And Saturday and Sunday consisted largely of trying to find some way to shade my legs from the sun, since the heat made them sting even though I was wearing sunscreen at that point.

Photos and a couple of movies of interest over at http://www.gations.com/gallery/falcon2005/

Sounds like next year's Falcon Ridge is going to be at a new location. I hereby keep my fingers crossed they find a place that lives up to the amazing venue that is the Long Hill Farm. I'll miss it. I grabbed a rock from the place before leaving this year, did you?

Moving Falcon Ridge? Eep! Maybe it finally just got too big for the farm to handle. I am sad!

No, someone bought the farm... It might only have to move for one year, while things are up in the air legally with the transition, or it might move permanently so the new owners can use the place for farming.

They're confident they'll find a place, though.
