grab bag

Tonight, I get to see Serenity, because avacon is a rock star. I was slightly worried for a bit about seeing the movie without the music or effects complete, but I came to my senses pretty quickly.

Well, guess I have to start watching Stargate: Atlantis. Stargate has figured out the key to success; hire the cast of better sci-fi that has gone off the air and get the fans of those shows to want to see those people succeed.

I have a long list of movies that I need to see, either in theaters or about to be... I should write them down, so I don't forget. This is also what Netflix queues are about. Sin City, Hitchhiker's Guide, The Interpreter, The Life Aquatic, Kingdom of Heaven, Star Wars: Episode 3, XXX, Hitch, Robots, Millions, Fever Pitch, Million Dollar Baby, Kung Fu Hustle.

Last night at chenoameg's Word Games, we played "Apples to Apples." And it triggered more over-the-top silliness in me than I've had in quite some time. I was riffing on this or that, and got a couple of trump cards ("Adolf Hitler" for "Patriotic" and, the classic - "Helen Keller" as "Visionary." Though danamae came up with the other adjective that Helen trumps - "Touchy-Feely".) It was fun, but I came away feeling loud.

Had a gaming run Tuesday... lots of fun at that one. We got to take out the Guns of Navaronne! Well, temporarily, anyway. I would have thought having the gun roll down the side of an island would have damaged it in some way to make it unusable, but it sounds like we can expect the guns to be back in operation in a matter of weeks...

Sunday I actually got out to see the Somerville Open Studios! Stopped by surrealestate and tcb's exhibits, got to see the Masonic Temple done up in fancy murals, and got to see the house Hilary Scott made. Someday, I want be 1/10 as cool as Hilary Scott, and have even one or two things that cool in my house. Apparently the old Somerville Theater seats are easily reupholstered, and a gas fireplace is relatively easy to install in a room. And it is possible to turn a room into a jungle.

I've been running around frantic lately, trying to keep up socially while spending long hours at work. Sorry to anyone who's talked to me about something and felt like I wasn't really there. I've been trying to overclock my brain again and it still doesn't work.

You and avacon are both very mean for going without me. I mean, really, how can you go to that movie without me by your side, the faithful friend that I am? *sigh* I'm very disappointed in you both. You know I would give just about anything for a ticket. :(

Sorry, I'm lucky myself that someone else cancelled...

We've played Touchy-feely for Hellen Keller too. We had to take a break because we were laughing for so long.

Better Sci Fi Shows
I'll grant you Firefly, but not Farscape.

Re: Better Sci Fi Shows
I've never actually watched much Farscape, so what I have to go on there is entirely word-of-mouth. Seems like one of those shows that you watch from the start and get wrapped up in, though, unlike the Atlantis variety of Stargate.

So that statement was an unsupported comparison of two shows of which I've only seen trace amounts... I do think they picked up viewers when they got Farscape actors on the show, though.

Re: Better Sci Fi Shows
I think you've got your Stargate series mixed up a bit too. Clauda Black was on Stargate SG-1 for one rather bizarre episode (rumor has it she'll be back). Ben Browder is joining the cast of that series next season, as Richard Dean Anderson tries to phase himself out I think. Stargate SG-1 seems to be plenty popular, though, and has lasted longer on the same network that abandoned Farscape...

(Stargate: Atlantis is getting Mitch Pileggi & Jewel Staite as guest stars next season, but no Farscape alum that I've heard of.)

Movies to see
I hope, for your sake, that you mean the original XXX and not the newer sans-Diesel version...

As for SG-1:Atlantis.. eh. Some of my housemates like it, but it kinda seriously jumped the shark around episode 5 or 6, in my opinion. Kaylee is probably worth watching the shwo for, but why the link to Farscape?

Re: Movies to see
SG:Atlantis feels like a bunch of one-night games, and not in a good way.
"We need to collect 5 RTIs so we can assemble them to get the power cell
for the base shields as the alien mothership will arrive in 8 hours
and will obliterate the planet at that point, but the other team
is also going for the same RTIs and there are a few team members we
can't totally trust, plus maybe a few civilians to save."
I've played that game a bunch. ;)

Re: Movies to see
Mostly because they got the two main actors from Farscape to join Atlantis (one for a guest stint, and one for something longer-term?)... didn't they?

Or was that SG-1?

Enh. Whatever.

Re: Movies to see
Oh, the Farscape folks are joining SG-1, not Atlantis.
Although someone said Jewel Staite (Firefly) will
have some guest appearances on Atlantis, which will
be very spiffy!

From the next room you did not seem louder than the other players. We had a lot of trouble playing boggle what with all of the laughing in the other room :)
