I must be insane.  I'm looking at this and thinking "This could be the computer I use for the next ten years."

I've already ordered two.  (Well, ordered one, then changed my mind and went bigger...  have to wait for business hours to cancel the first.)  I may cancel, but I have a couple weeks to think about it, and one of the first spots in the line for deliveries, thanks to my uncanny 5:30 wakeup this morning.

But man, is that thing beautiful.

Grrrrr. Why do macs have to be so damn cool? Just when I thought I was committed to getting another Windows machine they throw something like this into the works.

Ok, that, is just beautiful. My one question is, if you're not running everything wireless, then where do you plug in cables? On the side of the monitor? But yeah, it's really pretty great. :)

in what way is that better than a laptop? it looks to me like it's just a laptop with a detached keyboard. I like my laptop better. My laptop folds up!

Its pretty sweet. I had my heart set on a G4 iMac (with the 17in cinematic display) some time ago, but due to the economy and my growing family, it was put on the back burner. Gees, I could probably get one cheap now, since everyone is going to want the G5s.

Call me a wet blanket...
But isn't there a list of things you need more than you need that? Like a garage door opener?
Didn't you just treat yourself with the new camera?
Haven't you decided that you have long term financial goals that mean you have to save money for things first, and then you can buy them?

(Yes, I realize you have a few weeks to decide. And maybe I'm overreacting. Yes, it looks very cool)

Re: Call me a wet blanket...
I have to agree. You've commented in the past that you would like to, one day, own a house.

I hate being a wet blanket as well, especially since I just spent money I probably shouldn't have, but we care enough to remind you that you might be letting the short term gain tempt you from more satisfing, useful and practicle long term gains.

I'm not saying you shouldn't have bought these things, just that you need to think hard about what your long term goals mean to you.

That looks pretty sweet for a desktop (although I haven't quite figured out the answer to plymouth's question--how *is* it better than a laptop?). But have you ever used a single machine as a primary computer for anything even vaguely approaching ten years? Can you imagine using a 486 with 64MB of memory today, no matter how nicely designed?
