missing the point of the joke...

People seem to be missing the point of my recent post about the vote trade between Buchanan voters in Florida and Kerry voters in Massachusetts.

The point is that it's a joke.  The point that it's funny to propose the existence of someone who believes the Buchanan votes in 2000 were intentional.  Someone who believes so strongly that those people meant to vote for Buchanan, despite the fact that he's clearly a Democrat, the kind of person who normally is spotted saying "No, those people got cheated out of their vote, it's clear they wanted to vote for Gore, and [optionally] those votes should have been counted for Gore."

The existence of this person is absurd, you see.  No one who wishes that strongly for a Democratic president could not make the logical jump to the conclusion that the Buchanan thing was a random result of ballot geometry.  But this person does.

And that, my friends, is why it was funny, until I went ahead and explained it.  :)

I'll jump on the grenade for all the other idiots and admit that I still don't really understand. but I don't really want to. :D

it's fun to see a bit of ornery-ness coming out in you now and then. at least, IMHO. :):):)

I think when I see "Kerry," and "Buchanan," and "vote" all in one sentence, my brain goes into hyper-politically-aware mode, which shuts off the humor cells.
