Lookin' for CRS

Writing LJ was a lot easier when I could convince myself very few people were watching. :)

All right, no more second-guessing. Just go forward. Or else I'll get mired down in some kind of, um, mire.

Something odd happened tonight that set my whole LJ experience 90 degrees on end. Mail went out to a list some friends of mine are on, someone was looking for me. All she had to go on was my LJ name. This is quite odd... but at least I know it's not something the person wants kept secret, since it went to a list. So I can talk about it here. Right?

So anyway, she just said "Lookin' for CRS"... not much to go on there. Though she did have a cool .sig. It occurs to me that perhaps she's just looking for me because she found some lost article of mine, maybe I dropped the gloves I had my LJ name sewn into down at the T stop, and she's the one who found them. Or perhaps she wants to tell me in email that I'm a complete kneebiter for letting everyone see this kind of stuff.

Oh! I got it! She wants to use my journal entries for lyrics, that must be it! She's a folk musician, and that Retroactive thing would make a great song, so she wants to get me to let her use the idea. I'll get her to name the song "Lookin' for CRS"...

Ok, enough fantasizing about the mysterious person... Time to wait for her response to the email. It's a funny feeling writing this knowing there's a good chance she'll see it. There's only so much ability to stay yourself when you're under observation.

good day

The best thing about bringing my bag to work, the one with all the extra clothes and stuff i need to stay the night if I get inspired, is that I have comfy sweat pants in that bag. And I can use them, even if I don't stay the night. Man, I should have put these on hours ago. *bounce*

I finally made it to the local Wainwright branch... soon I will be free of the grip of my new bank! And I got to spend money at Quantum Books, too.

I made some real progress at work... Soon I will be gliding through the code, making it bend to my will! Bwahaha!

And I seem to have, um, inspired someone to start a livejournal. :) This is my first chance to use this LiveJournal "user link" feature, I wonder if chaiya will mind. It's really just a great feeling to have contacted someone, to have been understood. That may be the real reason for writing a livejournal... To try to be understood.

Well, it's one of the two, anyway. The other is to have a place to organize my thoughts. It's a meditative process, writing here. In some ways, I get to be more careful with the face I present here... I have faults, but I choose which faults to expose. I get to think things through and edit them, and I become a more idealized me here.

My other big accomplishment today was writing my email response to Christy... I hope it went over ok. I think I wrote it out ok, but I'm reminded of "A Christmas Story", when Ralphy writes what he considers to be a masterful school essay, but it's really just this jumble of words. Even reading it back he's in awe at his prowess. Heh. But no, it was a good introduction...

Rock on.

"one more thing..."

Apple has been turning up the heat on their homepage. "Macworld SF - Beyond the Rumors Sites. Way Beyond", and "It's like a backstage pass to the future." The rumor sites are going nuts. iWalk, the next generation Newton that runs OS X (unlikely), flat-panel iMacs (likely, but not *that* impressive), merger with Palm and Be, big deal with Sony, who knows what? But I'm looking forward to finding out what, exactly, Steve is going to unveil Monday morning at the weirdly-rescheduled keynote address.

Not that I'd like time to fast-forward or anything. Time can go as slowly as it likes; I have a lot of work to finish here. I checked my schedule this afternoon vs. what I've actually gotten done, and after taking into account a week of work on something I figured out was needed only after I made the schedule, I'm currently on December 18th's work. But a lot of the work has been on abstractions needed throughout the whole project, and I really do feel that things will be accelerating now that I've gotten some hard questions figured out. Plus, I'm more rested than I would be had I actually come in every day during the holiday season, as I had originally planned to do.

Pressure's on, but I'm trying not to let it get to me unduly; no sense in getting worked up and becoming *completely* unproductive.

Sidenote. I really wish in Logjam the home and end keys went to the beginning of the line, not the paragraph. I've gotten stymied by that a bunch just now, and I actually lost a paragraph when I really meant to only delete the bit from the cursor to the beginning of the line. Just a little nit to pick. I sometimes fancy myself a UI guy, even though I haven't worked on UIs professionally in a while.

Wow. LJ can be a big distraction, can't it? *grin* Ok, back to work.

one more entry...

Ok, it's time for me to head home and get some sleep. I need to be well-rested tomorrow, need to get in early. There's LARPing to be had at Arisia tomorrow night! A good friend of mine was running this on an informal basis, and this is the first outside appearance of his game, and I don't want to miss it! So I should rest up nicely, and get ready to head to Arisia relatively early tomorrow.

Besides, this may be my chance to dayshift.
