This morning, slashdot had a link to this IBM Research site on "reinventing email." I read through it and though "cooool" at all the different new ways of conveying information they've developed... and I got to thinking "How can I get to work with these people?" And it clicked suddenly... I've lost some of my direction. Or rather, all of it. I used to know what I want, what I enjoyed working on, and, well, here I am doing what I can to make a living.

So I asked around online, what's it called when this is what you want to do? Human Factors or UI, it sounds like. Did some searches, got some URLs from friends... For my own record, things I need to look at:This could be the next step. I like that idea. There hasn't been a "next step" for a while.

Marleigh's at Georgia Tech in Human-Computer interaction now - she can probably tell you a lot about that.

That's what I do. My title is Product Designer, but that's a bit of bull in my opinion. I do User Interaction Design and while I was in CA I did usability testing on mine and other designs. Join ACM SIGCHI and you can get the little magazine and go to the conferences. There's lots of cool stuff there. I have some links on my webpage, too.

I think intuition_ist and maybe dpolicar know something about this field.
