More ramblings drawn from scrawls in my drive-time notepad.

The flu ended World War I? Huh. Apparently the Chinese are more dependent on Middle East oil than, well, us. Wolfowitz? Some big guy under that Rumsfeld guy, some kind of evil? Gotta look into that.

One thing to do to change this country, to change the world, to change the future, would be to get into journalism. And to learn Arabic. And to go out there, and find out what’s actually going on. Or something like that. Uhh...

Often I think that the only way to find out what's actually going on is to come up through the inside. So learning Arabic would be fine; journalism I'm not so sure about. It's one of the reasons I was toying with the idea of going into the foreign service.

That the flu ended WWI is an interesting assertion, and one that is probably neither wholly correct nor wholly incorrect. It certainly had a massive impact on the world and the battlefield at the end of the war.

The US is not actually dependent on Middle Eastern Oil. We've got enough oil-producing capacity to see to our needs, IIRC; we don't *want* to pump at that rate, though. What's more important is that MEO being shut off raises oil prices overall, and would be crippling to europe. Iraqi oil going away for good would actually be beneficial to american oil tycoons.

Wolfowitz is one of the leaders of the Rumsfield faction in Bush's advisors. Fairly influential guy.
