one more thing...

It may just be time to call my doctor and make an appointment to talk to him about ADD.

Only then will my lunch break be complete.

A lot of doctors will give you flack about saying you have ADD.
Many don't think that it exists.

I saw dr. ratey - he's really good, he wrote driven to distraction, answers to distraction, and other pretty big books like that.

He is kind of expensive, and doesnt' take insurance. So you have to file for yourself

Well, I really am curious; I wouldn't dream of self-diagnosing myself, but I'm worried that it might actually be what I have... The suspicion's been growing slowly over a few years now, actually.

How much rigamarole did Dr. Ratey run you through before calling it ADD? I expect to go through some testing, or at least some in-depth questions, before I get diagnosed... I, too, have the feeling that a lot more people get diagnosed with ADD than maybe should, though now that I'm coming to feel the way I am now, I hope and pray that ADD is, in fact, what this is, and not just, I don't know, some kind of lack of discipline leftover from childhood or something.

I just want to somehow be convinced that I'm not taking some easy, short-sighted way out of a predicament...

Not much - i've heard him diagnose it in one or two sessions.

Myself, i already had an official diagnosis from a neuropsychologist.
It involved an IQ test, an MMPI2, and a single session.
Dr. Ratey is an ADD specialist, so he usually isn't as "long winded" about the testing expereience
