question for the media...

When it was the Democrats using the filibuster, we heard about it nonstop, how it was grinding everything to a halt, how the Democrats should let things go to a straight up-or-down vote...

Why aren't we hearing that now that the Republicans are making our senators come in from the hospital to make their filibuster-breaking votes to get anything done? Why can't the Democrats' publicists get this message out as effectively as the Republicans' ones?

Because the Democrats are idiots?

No seriously, it would turn them in to "Them" ... and so they eschew methods that are so obviously powerful. Hence, for refusing to use the same weapons the GOP uses, they are idiots.

That's both my cynical and optimistic appraisal of the situation.

Sorry, a bit disillusioned after today's FISA vote.

I'm not convinced this is the case, but I'd _like_ it to be the answer that the Dems have enough integrity to accept that the tactic they used so much over the last six years is also fair when the other side uses it. After all the talking the Dems did about how fillibusters were a legitimate tactic, it'd be absurdly hypocritical for them to start complaining now that the Republicans are the minority and need to use it. That'd be right up there with, say, using a tactic you complained about your opponents using just because you've become the minority party.

2008 is the year for more Democrats. 2010 is the year for better Democrats.
