Good ol' XKCD. Nothing beats XKCD.

*checks pockets* 87 cents to the first person to correctly identify my favorite joke in today's XKCD.

[edit: unscreening comments now... this is silly :]

I don't know about you. But I really like the frightened squirrel.

:) that would be a great name for a radio station, now that you mention it.

I'm leaning towards slinky waves, but I'm not sure if we have the same taste.

Sinister Google Projects?

I can see why you would say that... :)

There are so many good ones.

Potato!
Octarine!
X-ray glasses.

But my guess is Google secret projects.

I can see why you would say that...

Octarine was the one I pegged as yours and ringrose's.

Multiple instances of 17 on the Q scale?

I can see why you would say that... :)

The Q scale is kinda funny... gal^2/Coulomb... that almost sounds like it should be meaningful.

I'm really not sure now why I screened comments. I even said it was the first one. Anyone object to me just unscreening the guesses so far? They are pretty amusing, and still none are the one I had picked as my favorite.

People who remember obscure posts of mine from years back may have more luck.

Not Google
Well, I thought it would be Google Secret Projects, until you said that no one had guessed it, so now I'm torn between "Visible Dark", "Slinky Waves" and "Jack Black's Heat Vision", all three of which feel like Chris-eske.

Re: Not Google
Doesn't seem fair to give multiple guesses... But I'll say your guess gets the cold, hard cash. :)

Re: Not Google
If it makes you feel worse, I was right for totally the wrong reason. I thought that Jack had heat vision (beams shooting out of his eyes) in one of his movies, like School of Rock, or something. Which should tell you how well I follow Mr Black's career, or how well I remember things I've seen or something.

My two guesses are "Space rays controlling Steve Balmer", and the fact that the alien bandwidth does not overlap with the SETI bandwidth.

Losing time to xkcd
Now that you've read through it, did you notice the on-mouse-over comments?

'Cause traditionally this is the point where people say something like ``Argh! Now I have to go and read them all *again*!''

Re: Losing time to xkcd
mouse-over comments??? umm... you're mean!

actually i didn't read every single one the first time :)

by the way, is there a webpage index for the archive? all i've found was a directory with all the pictures in it - in alphabetical order.

Re: Losing time to xkcd
As far as I know, there's only the archive page, which doesn't seem to be in strip-order.
