Prairie Home Companion mini-review

Just awesome. I laughed, I cried, I got numerous pangs of nostalgia. I wonder how that's even necessarily possible, given how rarely I actually listened to the show when I lived in the Midwest...

Also awesome: going into Spike's Junkyard Dogs on the way home, getting a steak & cheese sub, and when "The Good Die Young" comes on the radio, a spontaneous sing-along occurs with the staff.

[Edit:] Also also awesome: The Prairie Home Companion movie soundtrack album is on Rhapsody.

maybe You Had To Be There?
T and I saw the movie, and enjoyed it, but didn't really think that it made it all the way to `awesome', certainly. I think that I had marginally more exposure to PHC than she, but neither one of us understood the Lohan part in the movie... it seemed like maybe, on editing, someone wanted her to have a bigger part in the picture, and ``made it so''. All in all, more Mr. Lee and less Ms. Lohan would have been nice.

T expressed the opinion that she could just sit and watch Lily Tomlin and Meryl Streep for as long as they'd care to run the camera, and I enjoyed the tangential-genre parts of Kevin Kline & Virginia Madsen and G.K. & Molly.

Also, any movie where John C. Reilly sings has a head start.

Hey, I cited nostalgia.

That part would be likely to be absent for you, eh?
