a hero

Kirby Puckett was on the first baseball team I ever really followed, the '87 Twins. He was the man.

And now, he's gone, at far too young an age.

Rest well, Kirby.

*takes off hat* *waves homer hanky*

indeed. he always seemed to embody everything that was so great about the twins (and i've remained true to them, despite all the raging red sox fever around here).

i wonder how many of us there are who only really started following baseball with the twins in 1987? my first memories of really following major league baseball include headlines in the strib of "the magic number is [n]!" damn, that's a long time ago...

Oddly enough, my first memories of Puckett where when I was a Braves fan in MS...Jason and I were just first dating adn we had a bet on teh Twins/Braves series in '91.

I was sooooooo mad at Puckett for his heroics in that series...the incredible catch off the wall, the game winning homerun in game 6 to force the most incredible game 7. It was sooooo hard to like the guy, but it was also so easy. His smile was so contagious. After moving to MN, I grew to love him and thankfully got to see him play before he was forced to retire.

Baseball lost a great player today :(
