Penn Jillette, "There Is No God"

There Is No God, by Penn Jillette.

A wonderful one-page document that really says it all. There's more in his statement that matches my beliefs than I've seen anyplace else.

Interesting... I just watched an episode of Jeremiah that made pretty much that same point.

While I don't think that the essay is a spot-on mirror of my beliefs, it's certainly close enough, plus it's funny, which is always good.

I've read Willam F. Buckley's essay on the same topic three times now ( http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4656595 ) and I still can't even figure out which side of the debate he's on. I can't even figure out whether that's because he's so much smarter than I, or whether he's being deliberately abstruse to make me feel stupid.

I'm totally with you there. I'm not sure he's trying to make you feel stupid, so much as to show how it's possible to speak at length on the subject without actually conveying content.

But this I believe - there is no actual content in his essay. :)

From reading the essay, it sounds like he's saying he believes there is a God because the world is so rich and complex, using Occam's Razor as his reasoning. But yeah, it's not exactly very direct :-)
